Many a manager, at their peril, has relied on their track record to bring in capital. Veterans in the field (any field) know that one’s performance needs to be (i) acceptable, (ii) known, (iii) part of a larger marketing and branding exercise. Whether as part of the draw of a PM with personality, a crack team of data aficionados who can map all types of attribution, and/or a cadre of wholesalers and consultants who get in front of prospects via databases or personal means, all three of these factors can make or break an asset management company.
This webinar will discuss how to use data platforms like SigmaSandbox to one’s advantage, how some companies are creating specialty units to fashion their story, and how those in the trenches are using distribution methods to win sales.

Dave’s career in the investment and derivative industry began with Merrill Lynch in 1980. He initially worked as an analyst at a Canadian Pension consulting firm before moving to Merrill Lynch. Subsequently, he went on to roles as Vice President of Dean Witter, and then Senior Vice President of Refco Futures Canada. In that role he developed technology and analytics to provide listed derivatives exposure to major financial institutions. He was also Chair of the Montreal Exchange Futures Committee and was on the Board of the Toronto Futures Exchange, now part of the TMX Group.
He was involved in early discussions surrounding the deregulation of electrical power in Ontario and was an early advocate for public price discovery via a Futures mechanism. He testified to the MacDonald Commission and co-wrote the Canadian Securities Institute text on Energy Risk and Trading.
In the late 1990s he commissioned a study on allocation methodologies to assist institutions in the selection of hedge fund investments. This study, conducted by Prof. Seco of the University of Toronto led to the formation of Sigma Analysis & Management, a research and management firm.
In 2019, David began funding and development of Sandbox, which is an interactive, highly visual portfolio construction and query application that helps global investors determine true alpha and to examine alternative approaches. The Sandbox application features a significant amount of complementary hedge fund data.
